As the ranks of America’s World War II Veterans continue to shrink at the rate of 1,000 per day, so does our chance to honor these heroes, these members of “The Greatest Generation”. Since its inception in 2009, Central Illinois Honor Flight (CIHF) has had the privilege of transporting over 1,300 WWII Veteran Heroes to Washington, D.C. to see the memorials that commemorate the sacrifices of these brave individuals. Teamwork is essential in order to expedite our mission of escorting every veteran who wishes to visit their memorials – therefore,CIHF is excited to announce a collaboration that will speed up the process of taking our local Illinois Veterans to see their memorials. Land of Lincoln Honor Flight will be the new contact for any present or future veteran who would like to travel to see their memorial. Land of Lincoln Honor Flight is also proud to announce that they have and are still planning on taking any veteran who would like to go to Washington, D.C. to see the memorials; no matter what war they served. All remaining monies from CIHF will be transferred to Land of Lincoln Honor Flight so that the mission will continue to be a success and that any veteran currently on the CIHF list will be offered the opportunity to participate. The Land of Lincoln Honor Flight website www.landoflincolnhonorflight.org features information about the program, a list of frequently asked questions, and an application to the program.
