Terre Haute and Decatur, the smallest of the metro areas, are the closest followed by; Springfield, Champaign, St. Louis and Indianapolis. The CSX railroad is a prominent feature in the Village that provides critical services to local industry.  Effingham has an Amtrak line which connects Chicago and Carbondale.
