Position Title: Village Foreman
Department: Administration
Reports to: Village President
FLSA Class: Non-Exempt
SUMMARY
The Village Foreman plays an important role in keeping our community running smoothly day to day. This position leads the Village’s public works operations—including streets, water, sewer, and public property—while supporting a hardworking team and helping plan for the future of our town.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who takes pride in their work, values teamwork, and cares about the community they serve.
DUTIES
1. Oversee daily operations of public works, including streets, water, sewer, and public property
2. Lead, support, and develop public works employees, including hiring, training, and day-to-day guidance
3. Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring employees are properly trained, following safety procedures, and maintaining required certifications
4. Coordinate and support infrastructure and capital improvement projects
5. Work closely with engineers, contractors, and regulatory agencies (EPA, etc.)
6. Help manage the department budget and monitor spending
7. Review development plans to ensure they meet Village standards
8. Assist with planning and design of infrastructure improvements (roads, drainage, water systems, etc.)
9. Respond to resident concerns and help resolve issues in a respectful and timely manner
10. Attend Village Board meetings and provide updates when needed
11. Hands on work—this role requires both leadership and a willingness to help get the job done
QUALIFICATIONS
We’re looking for someone who is dependable, practical, and takes pride in serving their community. The right person will be able to lead a team, communicate well, and keep projects moving forward.
1. High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in civil engineering or a related field is a plus
2. 5 Years or more experience in public works, construction, utilities, or a related field
3. Leadership or supervisory experience is helpful but not required
4. Strong communication and problem-solving skills
5. Ability to build positive working relationships with employees, contractors, and residents
6. Basic computer skills (email, Microsoft Office, etc.)
7. Organized and able to manage multiple priorities
REQUIRED LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS
- Valid CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) is required
- Must have one of the following OR the ability to obtain within 2 to 4 years:
- Illinois Class B Water Operator Certification
- Illinois Class 4 Wastewater Operator Certification
Preference will be given to candidates who already hold one or both certifications.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to work both in an office setting and outdoors as needed
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, digging, and operating equipment
- Must be able to obtain bonding
SCHEDULING
Typical hours are Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Some evening meetings and additional hours will be required depending on projects and Village needs

-Salary range – $30 to $40/hr. based on experience
