Position Title: Water and Sewer Maintenace Worker

Reports to: Village Foreman
FLSA Class: Non-Exempt
SUMMARY
This position assists with the management of the Water and Sewer Division under the direction of the Village Foreman and does related work, as required.
DUTIES
1. Responsible for the daily operations at the water and sewer plants.
2. Safely operates machinery to complete maintenance and repairs on water and sewer systems.
3. Reads water meters and keeps logs of the readings.
4. Maintains water mains, including the cutting in of valves, setting new hydrants and repairing old ones.
5. Maintains sewer (sanitary and storm) mains, and all streets and alleys.
6. Installs culverts, water services, drain pipes, etc. following specifications, blueprints, and manuals.
7. Assists in collecting sewer samples and recording of required data.
8. Responsible for general upkeep and maintenance, including keeping sewer grates free from debris.
9. Maintains, operates, repairs, and replaces equipment as necessary.
10. Reports any major repairs when additional assistance may be needed.
11. Must provide courteous and efficient service to Village Residents and the General Public.
12. Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
13. Attends regular staff meetings and meetings of the Village Board as required.
14. Performs additional duties as may be assigned by the Village Foreman or the Village Board.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Must possess or have the ability to obtain within 5 years an Illinois class “B” Water Certification license.
2. Must possess or have the ability to obtain within 2 years a Class “4” Wastewater Certification License.
3. Must possess a valid Driver’s license and Commercial Driver’s License.
4. Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of water and sewer systems.
5. Must possess knowledge of machine operations.
6. Ability to maintain working relationships and interact with Village residents and the general public.
7. Must be able to perform some heavy lifting, shovel work, and general maintenance.
8. Must be able and willing to work in all types of weather conditions, including extreme conditions.
9. Must be available for emergency calls during nights and weekends.
10. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. above shoulder height.
11. Must be able to carry up to 35 lbs.
12. Requires employee to have the ability to push/pull up to 26 lbs.
13. Proficient in MS Office, E-mail, GIS, and Internet.
SCHEDULING
The summer working hours for this position are from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and winter working hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. This position will have an on-call schedule and must be willing to work nights, weekends, during emergencies, severe weather, or other times as needed. Overtime is required when requested.
